Book review: ‘Think and grow rich’

I finished reading through ‘Think and grow rich’ by Napoleon Hill.
So I thought on sharing some of my remarks with you.
First, I must admit that the book is filled with interesting information. But, as he puts it himself, it consists of a philosophy, which means that it is more theoretical in nature.
This by itself is not necessarily a negative point. It is surely a valuable instrument for the more theoretical among us, or, as an aid to clarify some points that other merely touch on the surface.
The book is different in hat respect that it follows from a case study of a few hundred successful people. Hill studied the things they had in common and turned it into a philosophy. In this way, the methods used are far more down to earth than those presented in similar books. The influence of psychology is also far more pronounced.
For instance, sex is touched as an important issue, but the more esoteric influences are not. It is seen as an important motive and as such is to be transcended or guided into new forms of energy in order to become successful in other areas of life.
One major drawback to the book are the many stories about people that I do not know any more the way they were known when the book was written. I guess the life story of Edison or Carnegie was far more inspiring 50years ago than it is now. The problem lies in the fact that he assumes that their life stories are known to a good degree. This is not the case for me. And although I can clearly see the point he is making with them, I fail to feel the motivational spirit that it must certainly have conveyed when it was first published.
So, would I recommend the book?
For more theoretical oriented people or people that want another angle on ‘the law of attraction’, I would definitely recommend it. It has some thought provoking questions inside that will need to be addressed sooner or later.
But for people just starting in these studies, I think it might be a little too hard or confusing.
But I surely do not regret buying the book.
Be well. Be rich. Be great.
