What would be a great way of promoting a new services?

Show off what you can do.

What would be a great way to attract public interest?

Do it for free the first few times.

And that is exactly what Jay at  Scribbles and words does. Jay sells banner and add designs and copy writing. I regularly visit his blog, and if you visit it too, you too will that his design is not only clean but also very pleasing to the eye.

And now he offers to design a 125×125 add for entrecard for free. That is an occasion I could not pass by. He shows off his work here. I think all are just beautiful. So I signed up!

I guess many entrecard users will want this and Jay will spend a lot of time on doing this :-).

New Blog Template

Filed Under (money, personal experience, promotion, reviews) by admin on 20-03-2008

Welcome to the new layout of the blog. It is called the atomic blog theme and I purchased it from Atomic blogging.

It is a nice and clean theme, plus it has a few addons that the previous theme was lacking. One of the most imoportant of them was the absence of a recent posts and a recent comments section. These are, I think, very usefull for a good user experience.

The not so nice thing about it is that not everything is as easy to change. For instance, there was some advertisement on the right side, and it was hard coded. I actually needed to change the template design for it to dissapear. Also, the adsense units I put in overlap with my entrecard widget, so this is not so nice either.

The package comes with good documentation though. A very detailed book (more for beginners, but I leaarned a trick or two also) and some video’s and info on great plugins.

All in all, I’d recommend the package, especially if you are a beginner or looking for inspiration when things go a bit slow. The package can be bought from here.

Moreover, coming with such a change, i’d be really interested to hear what you find about it. Likes, dislikes and possible things to improve. I’d be very grateful if you could leave some suggestions in the comments.

Be well. Be rich. Be great.

Mindfulness in plain English: a book review

Filed Under (mindfulness, reviews) by admin on 18-03-2008

I recently reread ‘Mindfulness in plain English’ by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana.

I remember reading it for the first time and thinking that it did not give me a lot of new information on the topic that I was interested in: developing mindfulness during my every day life activities. It was also during the time that I did not really fix my meditation practice.

Since then, I decided on indeed using Vipassana (mindfulness meditation) as my main meditation practice. And now I could read the book in a completely new mindset. One of true interest in the topic.

The book is aimed at beginners, but it is jam packed with useful information. It is very dense. It is not the kind of book where things are repeated for the convenience of the reader. No, if you want to get the most out of ‘Mindfulness in plain English’, you will have to read it, and then reread it. And I guess, then, reread it again.

in ‘Mindfulness in plain English’, Bhante introduces two kinds of meditation: the formal sitting meditation and the meditation in daily life. He calls the former the tool and the latter the tool. Unfortunately, this is not emphasized very strongly. And I think that this is indeed the purpose of all meditation: becoming mindful during ALL activities.

I’d like to conclude with recommending the book especially for the many tips, which, you will also find elsewhere, but this book you can download it for free at UrbanDharma
